A rarely seen, monumental Wedgwood salmon serving platter, date marked 1877.
A realistically molded whole salmon on a bed of sea plants and ferns in the Aesthetic taste. A shaped gray-green rim surrounds a bold turquoise ground. Dimensional, crisp mold work and beautiful glazing makes this a marvelous example.
The platter sits on four raised feet, the top two feet are pierced for wired hanging.
Impressed: Wedgwood, date marks AF & D, the F for 1877.
25 in. L x 12.75 in. W x 2 in. H
There is a raised glaze slip to the front, in the making. The rear rim shows two older slivers, not seen to the front of the platter.
